Bone Feather is a marque synonymous with artisanal quality and luxurious natural materials. Your Bone Feather bag is primarily made using only the best natural materials we can source, including many different leathers, suede, fur, cotton and more. As every hide is unique; tonal variations, marks or veins are natural features and should not be considered imperfections. To preserve the original quality of your bag we recommend avoiding contact with water, grease, perfumes and cosmetics, and extended exposure to U.V and storing your Bone Feather bag in the dust bag provided when not in use. Every Bone Feather product crafted from natural materials will evolve over time with use and become as unique as its owner. Please refer to the information below on the exact materials used in your bag and how best to care for it to ensuring it stands the test of time.

Cotton Lining

Bone Feather bags are fitted with 100% cotton lining. If you wish to clean your lining we suggest removing all the contents of your bag and flipping your bag inside out. Wipe down the lining with a damp cloth and let your lining sit outside the bag until it is completely air dried away from heat or sunlight.

Brass Accessories

Our Bone Feather bags are fitted with 100% brass accessories including buttons, D Rings, chain straps and more. Due to the nature of brass it can tarnish or darken naturally and over time. We recommend keeping it away from damp surfaces and being cautious of products on your skin that may cause the brass to tarnish, i.e. makeup, perfume and hand creams. Brass is very easy to clean and shine with a brass cleaner. To use, simply add a small amount of brass cleaner to a micro fiber cloth and rub along the brass surface. Proceed to wipe all cleaner off and polish your brass. Please bear in mind that all cleaner will need to be wiped off or it can oxidize and turn green. Avoid getting any brass cleaner in contact with your leather as it can cause damage. If this occurs promptly remove from the leather with a damp natural cloth to ensure your bag is not permanently damaged and/or that there are no lasting effects.

NEW ZEALAND DEER SKIN

Deer skin,  sourced from New Zealand is a luxurious and versatile leather both strong and thick yet soft and supple. To ensure your Deer skin Leather wears/ages beautifully over time we recommend avoiding contact with water and grease and avoiding overexposure to heat and direct U.V light. Owing to the soft and supple nature of Deer, marking or scratches can occur when rubbed against anything coarse or abrasive. If marking occurs, simply massage the leather against your skin and let your natural oils reduce any permanent marks or scars. For optimal longevity we recommend applying a leather conditioner every two months and storing your bag in the dust bag provided when not in use. Please ensure you use a natural leather conditioner and apply it to your bag with a clean cloth and gently rub the leather in circular motions.

LAMB SKIN

Our Italian lamb leather is coveted for its refined grain and durability. As your Bone Feather lamb product is crafted from a natural material, markings, indentations or grain variations may occur. These however should not be considered as imperfections and should instead be treated as unique features, just as unique as the wearer. For optimal longevity we recommend applying a leather conditioner every month and storing your bag in the dust bag provided when not in use. Please ensure you use a natural leather conditioner and apply it to your bag with a clean cloth and gently rub the leather in circular motions.

BUBBLE LAMB & SHEEP SKIN

Coveted for its soft, supple and bubble like textured surface our Sheep & Lamb leather is one of Bone Feather's favorites. Our Sheep and Lamb skins are dyed and sources from Italy. Our bubble lamb & sheep leather is lightweight, warm and delicate, which may stretch or distort if your bag is overloaded and gradually overtime with use. To ensure your leather wears/ages beautifully over time we recommend avoiding contact with water and grease and avoiding overexposure to heat and direct U.V light. Please note that marking or scratches can occur when rubbed against anything coarse or abrasive. We recommend conditioning your bag every few months with a natural leather care product and using the protection bag provided when not in use. Also please note that each hide is unique and therefore the leather texture will vary.

Shearling

CALF FUR

Your Bone Feather bag is made using the softest, most luxurious furs we can source. Tonal variations and differing hair direction is a natural feature and each fur is completely unique. Over time the fur will become shorter or fall out (much like in your own hair) in areas that receive repeated friction. This is a natural progression of the fur and should not be considered an imperfection. In order to slow this natural process please avoid harsh wear and store in the protection bag provided. To clean the fur, first brush delicately in the direction of the hair (not against the knap) to remove loose dirt. Then, using a damp cloth, gently rub the fur being sure to avoid excessive moisture.

SHEARLING WOOL

Your Bone Feather bag is made using luxurious 100% shearling wool. Due to the nature of shearling wool, tonal variations, differing hair direction and amount of fur may vary as each product is unique. Over time the fur may become shorter or lessen in areas that receive repeated friction. While this is a natural progression of shearling and should not be considered an imperfection, to slow the process down we suggest avoiding harsh wearing of the product and storing your bag in the dust bag provided when not in use. Furthermore, please note that repeated friction against clothing may result in possible color migration to light clothing.

As with all wool products, please note that excessive rain or water exposure may cause a change in color, patches of discoloration or misshaping. We also suggest avoiding placing your shearling product near an excessive heat source or UV light as this may result in the shearling to change color or dry out and crack over time. Please store your bag in the protection bag provided when not in use.
In the case of any markings, you may use a damp cloth to remove any marks, however we do recommend you take your shearling product to a care specialist for cleaning and optimal care.

Suede

Suede is soft and luxurious, however due to the nature of the hide, some suede leather fibers may rub and fleck off when rubbed against surfaces (i.e. your clothing). Please note that the fibers of your clothing, particularly denim or dark may also transfer onto your bag. It is essential given the nature of suede that you are particularly cautious of UV exposure, as the material is very sensitive to environmental factors. We recommend taking extra care of your Bone Feather suede leather product and if marking occurs we suggest patting the area dry with a clean cloth or suede eraser. If your suede gets wet or oily you can apply a thin layer of talcum powder, leave it to dry overnight before gently brushing with a suede brush (or piece of dry towel) to remove any excess moisture. Regularly using a suede brush will help keep the fabrics natural nap and will also remove any excess surface dirt that may be left on the suede. We highly suggest ensuring you keep your Suede product away from topical cleaning products, as these will disrupt the fibers in the suede. When not in use store in the protection bag provided.
